| IBS bowel movement symptom question
Hey everyone. My GI believes that I have IBS. I've always been hesitant toward an IBS diagnosis as I feel like it's kind of a general description for something that they have no way of testing for or determining what's causing it. Some say it's autoimmune, some say it's not. So I want to see if you guys have symptoms like mine so I have a better understanding.
When we think what are myIBS symptoms act up, I get terribly sharp pain all over my lower abdomen, below the belly button line. The pain is sharp and stabbing and stays consistently present but the intensity of it comes and goes. I am usually laying in bed restless because of the amount of pain it is causing. Usually at the peak of my intensity I will feel like I immediately need to go to the bathroom, however when I try, nothing comes out (feels like I'm constipated). This happens many many times over the course of at least an hour, often more. Finally at some point, I will feel the need to go to the bathroom again and suddenly I will have diarrhea and then usually my symptoms dull out pretty immediately (still there, but MUCH, more tolerable and less debilitating). Does this sound like what any of you go through?
