Foods that help diarrhea?

I have noticed that cheese really gets rid of diarrhea for me but it makes my face break out really bad. Is there another food that stops diarrhea?

I know that when my children get sick the doctors will put them on what is called a B.R.A.T diet. It's banana's, rice, applesauce, toast. Do you take vitamins? I know iron constipates but you can't take too much of it. Ask your pharmacist I'm sure he/she would know.

I agree with soulcatcher, i had a real bad problem with dia. I ate rice(works really well), bananas, oatmeal, and bread. Of course it didnt stop the dia. so im on a antispasmatic med, but the foods do help slow me down.

Re: Foods that help diarrhea?

Thanks for the info. Do rice, bananas, oatmeal, and bread have the nutrients a person needs to only just eat them? What about meat and veggies? Or do you need to take a multi-vitamin with that diet? I have been taking immodium AD about 3 times a week for about a year and then I had to up it to every day and now it's not working as well. So i'll have to try changing my diet.

Banana's are defiently a good help. I've been doing that since I was a young kid (I have alot of tummy problems as a baby) and it is still the only thing to stop them when it gets really bad.

Banana's also give you an excellent source of potassium which is helpful for the spams and sometimes heartburn caused by the gas trapped in the colon during an episode.
