IBS and small intestine?

I have read in some places that IBS is a problem with the large intestine, and others that say it can affect the small intestine also... seems to me that if you have gas in your large intestine that it will work it's way out pretty quick... (I may be wrong)... but gas in the small intestine has a long way to go in a narrower area and would seem to cause more discomfort...

Are the normal gurgling sounds and gas pains that move around from IBS alway in the large intestine or can they come from the small intestine also?

Has anyone every gotten info from a doctor on this? Just curious.
