    Kidney...problems

hi, ok ive posted before but i never got any answers so ill try again with a bit of an update, im 17 and live in the uk so this may rule out some of the options any of u may reply with, ill try and make this short although its quite a long story.

About 5 years ago i think i had a stomach ache for like 2 weeks so i went to the doctors and he took a urine sample..blood in the urine, not visible i went to the specialist and we believed it was down to like messing around fighting with my mates and things so i went back in about 6 weeks....no blood now its protein but although my back ached...they never did anything they didnt tell me any figures so i presumed it cant have been too bad or they would have done something else, i remember going for some sort of scan where they scanned me somewhere around my bladder..or a bit higher this was waaay back but i believe everything was fine, i was told to go back next year...still protein no new problems, foamy urine well in the toilet sometimes theres a fair bit other times theres hardly any, but id just got use to it so it didnt bother me
anyway he told me to come back NEXT YEAR..again so by now im about 14-15 ...still protien they never suggested doing anything else so all i can guess is it wasnt getting any worse or anything, again go back next year and again protein no figures mentioned during this time ive had kidney aches or ive believed it to be kidney i dont know if its muscle around or anything else around there but back pain low and sides sometimes the lefts worse other the rights worse never enough to get me in tears or anything like this..just an ache that id got use to occasionally the pain would be quite bad for a few days at one side (i have this now its really high i dont know if its even related to my kidneys its on my left side of my back...about the bottom few ribs i think well if i push this bone it hurts quite a lot...made me think this maybe isnt kidneys i got it yesterday and its got better its quite annoying if i turn to quickly right or something but its not affected going to the toilet in anyway differently) but back to my story they discharged me as it wasnt, well i dont remember the exact words but after 4 years i guess it cant have got any worse as they was willing to ask discharge me..actually i remember i missed an appointment last year by accident id just started at college and we all forgot about it..they rang us up and my mum said does he need to go if its not really changed and the person on the phone asked the consultant and he looked at my files or something and said if nothings different then yes i can be discharged so i was now after this i dont know why but i was very releved about it..even though the pain was still there...(this was last september) but what id noticed was that it now wasnt as bad i think panic maybe made it worse not sure but i was happy getting on with my life until about 2 months ago, not kidney related i had (still do have) palpatations or something (im awaiting appointment with specialist NHS :\ ) but all i had a load of blood tests done and blood pressure monitored with it (i remember reading kidney failure and things are related to blood problems) so i thought maybe my kidneys are fine as nothing was ever brought up..normal bp and all blood tests were fine i know theres diff tests for kidney probs but im just presuming with all the tests they had done something would have stood out which it didnt, then i got loads of headaches so i was back again..bp was normal then recently my bladder was aching, which annoyed me as my kidneys hadnt been aching at all for months then this comes and i thinkj about my kidneys again and well the ache came back, i went to doctors the other day..took a urine sample and looked at all my tests and things 'no protein a little bit of blood but thats normal for you' it has to be microscopic coz in the 5 years of this ive never seen any blood or a darker colour..only thing different was the foam..also i recall it use to sting more going to toilet now it doesnt bothere me.,...either its gone or ive adjusted maybe coz im still growing up or wotever so i didnt know wot to think about that 'blood but normal for me' he didnt seem bothered so i take it there wasnt anything to be worried about he was prodding at my stomach and bladder and things, apart from feeling a bit of pressure, i feel bloated bottom of stomach have done since my chest pains/heart probs..but bladder was ok he said it all felt good so now im on paracetamol as i heard iburprofen is bad for kidneys. i remember reading to drink water...this may be my problem...im 18 in a few months and i dont recall every drinking a glass of just water...i cant be the only one who never has drunk water..or rarely am i? ...i dont even like the stuff if it will help ill try it though

sorry for going on nearly there
oh i read a lot of things up about kidney probs and im not sure if i relate to any of them, ive got no other effects really although this pain im getting now (the one i dont know if its kidneys or not) ...now being the hypercondriac i am.,..im thinking ive either got this renal failure or cancer or summat bad...but i keep telling myself if i had cancer then surely i would feel different after over 5 years...even this renal failure..how long does it take things to progress..ive had wotever ive got for over 5 years and i dont believe it to have got any worse at all just some days its a bit worse than others and also...like i said im 17...so surely does this like...mean it would be rare for me to have anything like cancer?

please, any answers would be appriciated, if ur going to reply and say go see a specialist again..id like to point out it would take me about 10-15weeks to actually get seen and as nothings getting any worse i dont really see the point unless of course something does, im looking for help, anyone with the same sort of problems...advice to keep my kidneys healthy...signs of anything i may have, anything thanks!!

I can't help you but I can't bear the thought of you not getting a reply given that you sound pretty confused and desperate.

I am in the UK too so I know all too well how the systems work here and I know how long it can take to get appointments with specialists etc.

I really do think that the only person who can help you and answer your questions is your GP.

Really I think you should make an appointment and just ask him/her everything you have asked here - for example, the 'normal for you' comment suggests that your GP thinks you're more aware of past results than perhaps you are. It could be just a mis-understanding all round but you do sound as though you need to be given peace of mind.

I am sure you're not suffering from renal failure or cancer but only your doctor can confirm this and if it's worrying you enough to post then you shouldn't be afraid to ask him/her outright.

Please, make the appointment and clear up whatever it is they have you down as. At least then you'll be able to make informed decisions and get on with the rest of your wonderful life

    Good luck!

    Re: Kidney...problems

thanks for the reply girlie! i thought no one would, i never seem to get many replys on this board

maybe your right about the blood comment being normal..there may be something i havent been told, and as no one is following it up i presume it cant be very serious

i havent made an appointment so far, im always at doctors for something, usually a skin allergy of some sort so i think next time i end up going back for some more cream i shall bring all this up and see what they say

really im big time hypocondriac i got like a wart on my hand and i thought i had some sort of cancer your probably right about it not being the cancer or renal failure, im sure with these SOMETHING would have progressed within 5-6 years and well nothing has really,

the paracetomol seems to have worked for whatever was up with my bladder, thats calming down, still feel all bloated and hearing a load of gurgles and things in my stomach can be a bit uncomfortable but apart from that im pretty much fine today no really kidney aches the pain i had at the top has practically gone so...confused but getting on with things ahh we will see, anyone else with similar symptons out there, id like some info plz, i prefer this place to the doctors

    thx again for ur post

    Re: Kidney...problems

i dunno why i keep adding stuff to this, i only have had 1 reply, but i feel better typing more

ive heard u dont really believe anything the internet says about conditions do u?
well ive seen this in other posts 'ignore wot the web says' etc etc

well...i did the unthinkable and have been viewing sites for about the last 2 hours to see if i could work out what i DONT have, now im going straight to the cancer 1
blood in urine is like the top 1 in every single list on sites, now i have blood..or i believe i have blood..or protien or both but do they mean visible blood...or the microscopic blood, coz like i say ive never SEEN any blood so im not sure about that. then u have back pain, which in some form or another ive had practically some sort of ache for 5 years..so now im feelin pretty worried,m now for like..2 months or so now my stomachs felt pretty bloated, ever since i woke up with palpations i read on the cancer list 'painful/swollen abdomen' well ok its not very painful, just it hurts a little bit when i apply pressure so again worried 'generally feeling ill' well i dunno if im just generally sick of being ill but theres times i just want it all to go away..dunno if that counts as generally ill...so i have all these for the cancer ones, i suppose i can then read up about its usually in people over 50, then theres swollen joints and things, fevers, diff colour urine etc etc...which does make me feel better its just knowing which to believe and which are the 'essential, obvious' cancer symptons....colud someone just actually tell me what are the chances of me having cancer at my age with these symptons , i keep telling myself i dont have half the symptons and im too young but the little voice in the back of my head keeps remindin me

you guys got me worried coz theres newer posts with like 8 replys and ive got 1...i would have thought everyone who is on these boards combined all there problems/knowledge wotever i could get some sort of idea, the fact u havent replied to me seems like u dont want to tell me something u suspect or u dont have a clue either...could i just get a few more replys plz if me thinking i have cancer is stupid..then will a few of u just tell me this..anything helps its constantly on my mind and it sucks..i even have noticed ive got quite a lot of views...which is strange anything please im hereee

    Re: Kidney...problems

In reply to your past letters, You say how you believe at times you may be a hypochondriac. I believe, when we start to self diagnos ourselves, we teach our bodies to mimic the ailments we think we have. I think everyone goes thru this at least once in their lives, but you should not make a practice out of it. I do not think you having blood in your urine is normal. And we are supposed to drink plenty of water. This helps to flush the toxins from our body. Lower back pain and the urine in the blood, I'm not sure but could be related to kidney stones. But I think you would be in un bearable pain. I wish you luck.... And drink water..... Put a wedge of lemon in it for a twist

    Re: Kidney...problems

hmm i dont seem to have any kidney aches at the moment now its just my bladder accchinggg...paracetomal doesnt work and my doctor says i dont have an infection...i dont know wot to do im still peeing fine, weather blood is present i dont know as its microscopic if its there at all, just bladder ache..like i want to go all the time if i press down it feels like i really need to go..so i do and i dont really do much and still feel the same, you think maybe this is a kidney stone thats moved into the bladder, maybe a small one, i know u say i would probably be in un bearable pain, which im not but it does ache quite a lot

    Re: Kidney...problems

Well, sometimes for girls we get the same problem. What I have done in the past is refuse to go to the bathroom, and drink lots of fluid. When I am near the point of urinating,(can not hold it any longer) I go . I continue to keep drinking, and not urinating as frequent as I may want to. I don't know if this will help, but worth a try. This may take a few days before your bladder feels better. Do not give in to urinating so much. And you must drink, drink , drink.......
