    Lemon Juice

I have passed a 6mm calcium stone, but have quite a few more stones. My urologist has told me to drink lemonade or water with lemon juice every day. Has anyone else been told this? What will the lemon juice do? Will it dissolve the remaining stones or just keep them from growing?

I also was told to drink lemon in water or lemonade.

I thought it was to help prevent new stones.

It is suppose to make your urine more acidic so as not to
develop any more of that type of stones!!

    Re: Lemon Juice

Lemon juice or lemonade (fresh lemon juice is better) does make the urine more acidic. By doing this, it makes the calcium oxalate crystals (the foundation of calcium oxalate stones) harder to bind to one another and start growing into another stone.

Lemon juice or lemonade will not dissolve calcium oxalate stones!! It's a measure to help prevent them. Trust me.....I've had over 400+ stones, 70+ surgeries (including the removal of my left kidney due to too many stones and surgeries.....now, right kidney is dysfunctional/failing and full of stones). I started making stones at age 9, now 37. I've been in the top research hospitals/medical schools since age 10.

If this truly did dissolve calcium oxalate stones, I would have known about it. I do drink lemon juice mixed with water to help prevent stones, but I'm just a freak case (the rarest any medical doctor has seen) and will always make stones, (eventhough I've had most of my parathyroid glands removed...your parathyroids control the calcium in your body) until my only kidney gives out.

There are other types of stones that can be dissolved with medications, but calcium oxalate stones do not fall into that category. That's mainly uric acid stones.
