Constant kidney pain
Hi, I'm new here and wanted to post about my constant kidney pain. I'm 26 years old female, for the past three years, every three months i have being suffering from kidney infections. I experience constant kidney pain that doesn't go away, but i dont have UTI symptoms. The doctors had had found heavy blood and bacteria, traces of protein and leuko est. in my urine samples however i have undergo many kidney testing including: Abdominal & Renal Ultrasound, abdominal CT Scan, VCUG, and Kidney CT Scan w/dye contrast and all the results I have a normal kidney. In a scale of 1 to 10 my pain is always a 7 and get worse when i have high blood pressure, fever, nausea, chills and I'm vomiting that's usually when my condition is at a chronic level and I'm hospitalized for three to five days. The doctors scratch their heads with me cause they don't have a clue. The IV/oral antibiotics clear the goodies in my urine but doesn't take care of the kidney pain. For that i take pain killers. I saw an urologist that told me that everything seems normal and recommend me to see a nephrologist(kidney specialist) which i did. The nephrologist i'm currently seeing told me that my problem might be at the cellular level and a kidney biopsy would indicate that but before doing that he wants me to see a rheumathologist to make sure my pain is not squeletal, muscular or related to nervous system. Next week i'm going to see that rheumatologist to rule that out. All this process is frustrating and as time goes by i'm afraid that my kidney would fail me and they won't have a diagnose. My nephrologist is very helpful, believes my symptoms are kidney related and is willing to work with me in finding a diagnose. He said my condition is uncommon and never had a case like mine.
I would like to know if anyone at there is going thru the same thing, What was the diagnose they told them?
I prayed that the doctors will find my condition this year. I just want to give an update on my condition above. Went to see the rheumatologist, he examined my back & reccomend me physical therapy to treat my right flank pain. I did 2 weeks of physical therapy. No pain improvement whatsoever. He determined my pain wasn't back related. Last week I had another kidney infection with the following symptoms: severe right flank pain & headache, vomiting, nausea, high BP, fever & UTI symptoms. Went to ER and was given 2 5mg IV bags of Levaquinn, 30mg IV shot of Toradol for pain,
14 day course of Levaquinn tablets, Tylox & sent home.
I felt better for the rest of the night but the following day I felt sick again. Went to see my nephrologist, he told me that i need a urine culture and inpatient treatment with IV antibiotics for two weeks. I'll start my treatment this coming Monday. I haven't been on IV antibiotics for that long. We'll see if this works. I hope so! Well, i'll write a thru update when i get back. Well the IV treatment didn't work out and I still having kidney infections. A month later I went home on vacation to get a second opinion. The nephrologist i saw ordered me to take a 24 hour urine test for creatine clearance, potassium, calcium oxalate & IVP test which i did, the 24 hour urine test was normal. Recently took an IVP test, blood & urinalysis still awaiting on results, hopefully I'll find out this coming saturday 18 Oct. 2003 and post about it.
Well the urologist found the IVP test normal, I didn't agree. When we were reviewing the x-rays the right kidney pelvis and calyces were obviously bigger than the left one plus the right ureter wasn't completely seen like the left one, also you could see a small black circle in the right kidney pelvis. I asked him about it, he said was shadow, also asked about not seen the right ureter, told me was normal. ???????? lot of questions he didn't answer or gave me a better explanation. My blood test was normal but my urinalysis was contaminated with bacteria & blood. He also said that was normal. To make a long story short i told him based on what i have heard from other doctors that normal urine is sterile ( no bacteria or blood),took my records and left. I'm definetely going to get a second opinion on those IVP x-rays & get me another urologist. Hope to know what's wrong soon.
