Hematoma from kidney surgery
My brother had a tumor removed from his left kidney on September 25th. During his 4th day of recuperation he started bleeding from the area where the tumor was removed. He bled out approximately 3 pints of blood . The result was a retriperitoneal hematoma in his body cavity. Doctors informed him that the blood could not be suctioned out. He was told that the body would slowly absorb the blood and would be about 10 days before he felt relief and could get off meds. It has been 1 month from his surgery and my brother is still on morphine and dilaudid to help control the pain he feels from the hematoma. He experiences burning and stinging pain that radiate from his groin area to his back. Can anyone share any info on retriperitoneal hematomas and how long it takes before 3 pints of blood are absorbed by the body?
