Smile Dependent Edema/ Help

Hi all ,
I have lots of swelling of my feet, and my stomach it's huge,
It's so uncomfortable to fit into trousers,

This has been slowly happening since last year but got more obvious since I got my Wisdom tooth out.. early Feb.

I had to get an urgent Dr to my home, to look at the swelling;
He took my B/Pressure, & heart, & prescribed Diuretics..

Went to Medical Centre,
Dr looked at a big blister which appeared overnight on my left leg above the Ankle, it looked infected and red, which he burst, and Nurse dressed..

Told me to get off the diuretics as they might be causing more problems ..
also looked at Bites on my arm, possibly a flea?..
He ordered Bloodtests to be done straight away
told me to go back to 2 days later..

I returned, he said the blister looked better,
I mentioned the swelling, he didn't seem concerned, but it worried me..
He ordered me to go for a Radiology Ultrsound Scan, at local hospital
,results were clear,..

back the next day for a Rectal Exam, he said there was something inside he could feel so he wrote to a Dr at hospital ordering another kind of Rectal Exam, just to be assured, he said.. Assured me it won't hurt.
I'm still waiting for appt.

In the meantime I've still got this "Dependent Odema" swelling which is driving me nuts.!!

I feel fat, huge & swollen,
Not from eating food etc..
So I rang the Nurse at Med centre,

She told me to go back next week, ( today's Saturday) to see dr and ask Him about the symptoms..

I looked up Internet to find what Dep. Odema is,
but wondered if any of you might be able to help in any way at all?

Thanks so much.. Linzgirl xx

Question Re: Dependent Edema/ Can you help?

I wrote about this problem 3 days ago but no one answered ..
so I'm gona bump it up so you can see it again..

Things are still the same, waiting on appt at the hospital..
Still swollen stomach and swollen ankles ..

( It reminds me of when my Mother (56 ) got cancer of the uterus..
was operated on day before Xmas day.. she was dead by the 8th January..)

She was scared of needles and wouldn't go for her smear tests.
It made me very sure to have mine done..

and here I am waiting to see what this problem is now!!

Hope someone replies if you know anything about the swelling?
Thank You.. Linzgirl xx

Re: Dependent Edema/ Can you help?

Swelling, if it's caused by kidney issues, can still be due to several things. Do you eat prepared food or junk or eat out a lot? There is a ton of sodium in this stuff. Cutting back on that could help significantly. Are you taking the diuretic regularly and has it helped a bit? Have you had blood work done to check kidney function?

Sorry, but there's not much more I can say without more info and you being checked. In the meantime, monitor your blood pressure, cut back on salt, and if you can swing it, but back on animal protein a bit as that can be hard on the kidneys.

Re: Dependent Edema/ Help

Thanks for your reply Cora

I do the cooking every night for tea, (a chop/ chicken & veges or curried sausages,
( my partners favorite) etc) so not much in the way of meals out,;

If we did get something ,
it would be a Healthy Subway Takeaway, but very rarely..

( we live in a country town away from the shops, and I'm in a w/chair, so my partner gets the groceries..
he's Diabetic, the early onset, it when he was only 19 yrs, now 58 yrs )
so aware of what's in our food..)

I'm not having fish n chips as I'm not eating those..
I don't like Hamburgers.. so NEVER eat those!

In fact I don't feel like eating much at all !!
just have toast or cereal for lunch..& tea at night..

I've only met the Dr in town since this started..
have had 3 lots of blood tests done in a short time,
( I don't understand them as they talked so fast..)

he told me to get off the diuretics the Duty Dr that came to my house put me on, as he said they could be causing out they went.. they didn't do much..

One thing I DID have had was extreme sweating.. Very unusual for me!! so I blamed our weather

Our weather was EXTREMELY hot for this part of the world, as we're usually only down around about 7 -10 winter, or lower..-1 Degrees

now it's Summer it's been regularly in the 25 Degrees - 35 Deg.. sometimes..
(too hot for us, and no rain since before Xmas..we had to go to bed with the fan on at night..)

So I'm at a bit of a loss ..

I've got to have this Rectal Exam I'm still waiting on,
( our Medical help is a bit slow, due to Govt cuts.. so I just have to wait..)

I just have the feeling my Dr has a suspicion what it may be but he's not saying till these tests..

So Cora.. I don't know myself..YET!!

Thank you so much for replying..
I'll keep you posted when I have them..
