Do leg cramps indicate worsening disease?

My 23 year old son was recently diagnosed with IgA Nephropathy. His last blood/urine tests were in December and his blood work was normal (and always has been) and he had the usual amounts of blood and protein in his urine.

He is now reporting leg cramps several times a week. Because he moved away the first of January, he is just now setting up an appointment with his new Nephrologist. Meanwhile, his momma is freaking out a little. So, can you tell me if he could be getting leg cramps if his disease isn't progressing?

Re: Do leg cramps indicate worsening disease?

My last CBC detected a small decrease in serum albumin, an increased creatiinine and BUN, however, I have had muscle aches, cramping and flank aches for the longest time. At my kidney function level (eGFR of about 73), I should not be having any symptoms of kidney disease, or, in the very least, very mild symptoms. No two sets of kidneys are the same. How are your son's potassium and sodium levels? If all comes back normal, even with lower end values of the range, then he should not be looking to kidneys. Good luck.
