Chiropractor not covered ... what to do?

I have severe back pain that's now affecting my knee and shoulder. After seeing a specialist, she concluded that my hips are slightly uneven, putting more pressure on one side over the other and suggested I try a chiropractor to help realign things.

Of course, chiropractic care is not covered under my insurance. Is there is any way I might be able to get insurance to cover this since it was something my doctor suggested to fix an actual serious problem I have?

    Dear fazzio,

I am astonished that your doctor did not at least refer you to a physical therapist.
There are physical therapy groups that offer massage and manual manipulation that is similar to chiropractics.

However, you can phone local chiropractors to inquire. Nowadays there are some that accept insurance. And, ask their prices. Some have reasonable prices.

if your plan does not include chiro care at all, you probably cannot do anything about it...you can talk to a chiropractor about what they would charge you for cash....

But if your plan allows it and you simply are not covered, your doctor can write to your insurance company and try to argue that it is medically necessary.
