    Total Knee replacement

Help, has anyone ever had the MRSA Staph infection? I broke my arm in 2000 and got a MRSA staph infection. I had to have the plate in my arm removed and let it heal from the inside out. I was on infection med. for about 3 months. I have not had a infection in 7 years but now I need total knee replacement. Has anyone ever had staph and then had knee replacement? I don't know what to do, I am afraid I will get Staph in my knee. Then what???

    Re: Total Knee replacement

    Hi
Yes I also had staph/MRSA of my sinus/nose following sinus surgery in 2005. I was on oral Vacomyacin for 1 mo & was clear of the infection. You have many more yrs seperating your MRSA to date than I do. I was off work a month because of it, not being allowed to work. It's a nasty & very contageous infection. I have continued to have chronic sinusitis 1 yr prior to surgery and ever since the surgery & have has staph once since then. Now June 19th I'm having a TKR on my left knee. So I will be in the hospital 3-5 days. I pray all will go well, and my surgeon seems to not have any worries about it. I'm 46 with Osteo, Rheumatoid & lupus. So I will post if I have any problems.

    Re: Total Knee replacement

I had 2 knee surgery, 2 level spinal surgery (9 hr surgery) and 5 other magor surgeries not related to the bones ... i never had s. infection.
My daughter who was 8 month pregnant and ended up at ER with fast heart beat cought in there steff infection in her blood and had to be treated intravenously for 3 month, but she was allowed to work if she wanted, it is not contageous by air, just by fluids or/and blood.
so i don't think you have to worry about it, millions of people have surgeries a day and only very small % get infections, most of them are older and with weak immune systems.
    Good luck to you.
