reacuring sudden knee pain when striaghtning it

    Hey everyone!

I've been having this problem for a long time in my life with my left knee. It happens every 3-9 months randomly, although sometimes my knee will ache before hand but I don't think much of it. What happens is that i will be either sitting up or lying on the floor or in my bed, I'll have my left knee bent somewhat the i go straighten it out, then BAM! My knee pops and theres this sudden flood of pain on the outside of my knee. It take me a minute or two to recovery as it hurts like no other. Then after awhile ill get up it hurts to put weight on it but not as bad as when I try to bend it backward. Its okay when I have it straight.

I currently im RICE'ing it but I don't know what to do from here as I have gone to the doctor before when it happened once they x-rayed it and called it good. It usually gets better in month. But this keeps happening.

Any ideas on what to do?
