knee out of joint

I'm having this happen, too. Anyone have an explanation?

Do you have a history of any kind of knee injury that caused problems to the ligaments or tendons? I have had ACL repair on my right knee and due to some ongoing tendon and ligament laxity (a problem I have in most joints) my knee can slightly slip out of joint.

Have you checked with your doc? I have something similar on my "good" knee now and he had it X-rayed along with a spine X-ray and he gave me a bunch of exercises.
I went back to my PT to have him show me exactly how and which ones to do since I feel he knows much more about exercises than the doc. He was able to show me how to do some of the same ones in an easier way and also which ones could cause trouble with my TKR knee and or back. I don't trust the docs when it comes to things like exercises and the proper way to do them. They don't show you nor is that their field of expertise.

Sounds like both of you need to see a good Ortho doc. The knee joint is a complicated joint. Your problems could be muscle weakness or something more severe. An X-ray and MRI will give you a very good idea of what is going on and what you can do to resolve it.
