Bending knee after ACL surgery

I had ACL reconstruction about 5 weeks ago. I'm 25 and athletic so I was hoping for a fairly quick recovery to full action. The doc gave me a generic therapy schedule that says I should be bending the knee 90 degrees in about 2 weeks. I am 5 weeks post op and I can just know bend 90 degrees and no further. By the plan I was given I should be at about 130 degrees now. I am becoming concerned. Is it normal to have trouble with flexion?

Re: Bending knee after ACL surgery

Well I had meniscus surgery so its different but at 6 weeks I could only bend 90*. It took two weeks of physical therapy twice a week and doing their stretches every day to get most of my motion back. I didnt think it would be possible but doing the stretches every day really helped. Best of luck.

While there are benchmarks, everyone's recovery is different. Are you working with physical therapists? If so they should be able to let you know if you are on track and if there are any concerns.

ACL repair surgery recovery is never easy. It's one of those surgeries that can really set you back for a while and you just have to be patient as you don't want to do further damage.
