    Exclamation Knee Arthroscopy - yes/no ?

Hi, I play touch footy, suffered a nasty bent wrong way knee injury a year ago; saw a surgeon who suggested a knee arthroscopy (can't even say it properly still ). A year on, my knee is fine, I play touch footy, run around, etc without any problems, but locking sometimes does occur only when I am in a crouch position and swivel on my knees, so it rarely happens. It seems (from what the surgeon said) the meniscus is torn.

Now, considering my knee is fine for doing pretty much everything, should I still have the arthroscopy done or live with some locking from time to time, save some money obviously.. or certainly in my best interest to get it done? Maybe am a little nervous, but in 2 minds whether one should get it done or be okay with it. Of course, my knees and sport and important.

    What would you do?

It sounds like the current situation with your knee is ok. However, if you do have a torn meniscus, it might tear further, or the damaged tissue might affect other parts of the knee, which means it might get worse over time and result in early arthritis.

Ask your surgeon if he thinks that this is likely in your case. Don't allow him to remove the whole meniscus, but removing a little loose or torn piece might be smart in the long run.
