Knee pain after hip replacement
Two weeks after second hip replacement, I am having knee pain. I think I had some similar pain when I had first hip done, but can't really remember. I'm assuming this is because muscles now being used properly and gait has changed. Anyone else have this issue.? What did you do to relieve the pain? How long did it last?

Re: Knee pain after hip replacement
Just a follow up--Had my first follow up visit last week and was told that this knee pain was common and as I suspected a result of changes in gait. I am finally, with both hips fixed, walking properly. Physician's assistant said it would subside in time and if by time of next visit (with the surgeon at 6 weeks), if it was still bothering me, the surgeon might order some physical therapy since it could be tendinitis.

Today, however, I had a physical therapist/massage therapist friend do a lyphatic massage which helps with swelling in the operated leg and she also worked on my knee. It feels much, much better. So, I'm thinking a few more treatments like this will be in order!

Hi Larimergirl:
How interestng that the new hip changed your gait back to normal. This will be helpful to others who have noticed some pain while their body gets used to being back to normal after a hip replacement.

Glad to hear that the swelling can be reduced with lymphatic message. That too is helpful information. We learn from each other here.
