A Question About Knees

I a having an issue with my knees that I am wondering if any one else is experiencing. I usually have the issue if I'm walking but it has started occurring when I am lying down, too. It is as if the thigh bone is going one direction, and the tibula is going another when they suddenly catch and then pop loose with a pain that is so severe that I have fallen down a couple of times. I've never been shot but this pain is what I imagine it would be like.

I tore a cartilage in that knee when I was 15 (65 now), and I kind of wonder if that has something to do with it. I asked my last doctor about it, and her response was that it was 'probably' arthritis. She was almost as evasive when I asked her if all the problems with my back might be fibromyalgia. She said that I was already taking medications used to treat fibro (which were NOT working, by the way. I don't care about the 'mights'. I want to know for sure what problems I have so I can meet them head on and deal with them as efficiently as possible.

I just want to know what any of you who might be experiencing this kind of pain have been told what it is and what ate the treatment options.
