Unhappy Cyst and Nerve Decompression Surgery in one month

    Hi friends!

I am going to have surgery to remove the cyst in my tib fib joint and to decompress the peroneal nerve decompression in a month.

    Here is the background:
    - I had Brostrom ligament reconstruction surgery for my right ankle in March 2013.
    - In May 2013, I slipped while on crutches and hurt my knee on the good side. The doctor and PT thought I had a simple sprain so I did the RICE steps.
    - Then after of pain and no improvement, I went through a MRI scan- it looked like IT band syndrome. Looked pretty minor, I just had to do a few weeks of physio.
    - But after 6 weeks and no improvement, the doctor suggested a cortisone shot. After the shot, I waited for 10 days before starting PT but something was wrong- I got such sharp pain when I did simple balancing.
    - After 3 days of intense pain, I went to see the doctor and turns out no one noticed a cyst on my tib-fib joint which was the reason for the sharp pain. The doctor did an urgent aspiration and cortisone shot
    - It looked like my knee finally made some progress, but in 3 weeks pain is back, cyst is back.
    - In October 2013, I had a second aspiration to remove the cyst.
    - In November 2013, the pain was back, and the MRI confirmed that the cyst is back, there is scar tissue around the peroneal nerve.
    - At this point, the only choice the doctors felt was surgery. I confirmed this with another 5 orthopedics.

I am hoping that I hear some of your experiences- so I know what to expect. I am struggling with severe anxiety, because unlike my ankle surgery, I have no idea what the recovery is like, etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for reading!
