Pain on left side of right knee, hard to pinpoint

This started about 3.5 weeks ago after ice skating.
I don't ice skate often as I am over 50 now.

The pain is moderate and only exists when the right knee is flexed leftward of the right foot.

This is one movement to demonstrate:

    1. Sitting in a swivel chair with both feet on the floor.
    2. Swivel chair left while keeping both feet stationary on the floor.
    3. As the feet rock to the left the pain begins.

    4. after doing this a few times, the pain is still there but not as bad as the first time it was done.

Bending the knee does not hurt, walking does not hurt, the leftward flexion of the knee while in bent position hurts.

The pain level is similar to tapping a bruise or sore.

Is this an MCL tear or something?

Re: Pain on left side of right knee, hard to pinpoint

I had similar but they said it was mild arthritis well I feel it's something else cause now it is still my left knee but the pain is so bad that I want someone to get a shotgun and shoot my knee. it's at the right side of my left knee while relaxing the pain pulsates so strong it goes upward and makes my want to scream. and I have high pain tolerance but this is to much for me. when I walk its right when I lift foot up to take another step it hurts like there is a nail in it. My knee/ upper thigh swells and I get woke up by the pain in the middle of the night. I hate going to doctors for it just to tell me its arthritis well I don't believe that. I'm almost 50 yrs.old very active person. I got on web md symptom checker it says repetitive motion. what brought on all this is yrs. ago when my right calf muscle like exploded I went straight down on my knee. its arthritis.... whatever. doctors just want more money by making people wait till they get really bad...sorry couldn't be much help.

I have the same problem and symptoms. A year ago an xray showed nothing and my doc said arthritis. Now it's so bad I can hardly walk on it and I go back to the doc and this time we do an MRI which shows I have a torn meniscus in my knee.

Have you had an MRI? If not, I would insist on one. And go to an Orthopadist, preferably one that specializes in knees.

They can do meniscus surgery with arthroscope. You will just have a few small incision sights and they can repair it that way. If it is torn completely from the back they might just trim it back so it doesn't catch on anything in your knee capsule. If ti is torn in the front they can repair it by reattaching it. Crutches for a day or two, then you will be ok to walk around on it. I was out of work for about a week, but I have a job where I am sitting most of the day so there wasn't much stress on it. I did use a cane for a few months.
