How much does LASIK really cost?

    Hi,

I am thinking about having LASIK and am confused by the prices. It seems that everywhere I look there is an ad in the newspaper for laser eye surgery for $299 or $499, but when I call other offices it is like $1800 an eye. So how much should I pay?

I paid $2250.00 for mine. That includes all the appointments before and after as well as the drops, masks, etc. It was worth it for me.

I went to one of the top docs in my area. He was one of the few using Intralase. So, I had Custom Wavefront Intralase done on both eyes and it cost me $3400.00. I wanted the newest technology though and the most experienced surgeon.
BTW, I am in Oklahoma City, OK.

I'm in Michigan and it cost me $4,300 and it was the best money I've ever spent and I absolutely love my results. I now have 20/15 vision. I used my flex spending account through work to pay for it.

The cost of LASIK depends on many factors:

    1. What all is included - preop exam, procedure, drops, retreatments, etc.
    2. Laser technology - Conventional or Custom / Wavefront
    3. Flap technology - Microkeratome or Intralase
    4. Personal care by the surgeon vs. assistants
    5. Local marketing and advertising costs
    ...and more

Mine cost 3750 for the custom intralase wavefront at one of the top hospitals in Pittsburgh. You always get what you pay for, and because its your eyes I'd want the best service available regardless of price!

Re: How much does LASIK really cost?

I had LASIK done two weeks ago and I paid $3600 which included a referral discount. I had a very experienced surgeon do the procedure using the latest technology, and my costs include two years of follow up visits and any enhancements that I might need, but my vision is now 20/20 so hopefully I won't be needing any. My advise is not to make your decision based on price. Pick a surgeon who is experienced and don't go to any "bargain lasik centers". You can't put a price on your eyes!

Thumbs up Re: How much does LASIK really cost? TIP

    just found this out-
there are a few vision coverage plans you can buy that will save you several hundred dollars in "discounts" with minimal annual premiums
also-if you have dental insurance-check-there may be some discounts offered there already-
I got dental "coverage" through a website i found on a websearch which included discounts on all dental procedures and also glasses/contacts/lasik
    I got the top procedure-customview intralase lasik in manhattan for $3700 instead of a $5100 fall special they're running--included everything except a $25 antibiotic drop--the dental/eye coverage was $129/yr

Re: How much does LASIK really cost?

I will be paying $2, 950. Usually this procedure is somewhere between $3,000 to $5,500. Beware of these ads you are looking at. They say if someone offers you lask for $399 per eye - start looking somewhere else. The price of the procedure depends on some factors, for example do you or don't you need astigmatism correction. If you don't , lask is cheaper (not much cheaper).

Re: How much does LASIK really cost?

How much does it really cost? 2300 an eye for me which includes pre exams, all follow ups and lifetime enhancements. It was wave front with intralase. Now add in the prescription glasses after the first procedure which left me undercorrected. After the enhancement add in the continuous use of eye drops and another pair of glasses because the right eye is still undercorrected and doc says it is too close to enhance the right eye. The haze and glare and fluctuating vision in the right eye...I guess you can't put a price on that. Doc's response? It's not that bad! Not for him. What's the price?

Re: How much does LASIK really cost?

I spent $3400 for Custom Wavefront Intralase. I am in Oklahoma City. As was mentioned above this was far from the end of the costs for me. Since my surgery in May I have spent over $900.00 on over-the-counter eye drops and several hundred on doctor copays, punctal plugs, and Restasis (my lasik center didn't seem to know how to treat the dry eyes so I had to go to an opthomologist my insurance would pay for).
