    Is an enhancement worth it?

I got my lasik done in january, and still don't close to as well as I did with glasses on so I will most likely need to get an enhancement done in July or so. My question is if it's worth getting one because I really wouldn't mind going back to my glasses cause I kinda miss them anyways. Is it more/less risky compared to the first time getting lasik? Will it improve/worsen my dry eye situation? How about my sporadic starburst/halo situation? I still have dry eye but it's really slowly getting a bit better by time. Thanks.

    anyone?

Also to add to that, do they have to cut the flap again or do they just lift it since it's already been cut before? Please add anything else regarding getting an enhancement, thank you.

And another thing, I just went to see a regular eye doctor to get an unbiased opinion on my eyes and she said that the flap on my left eye is really bad and not smooth and flat, overall did a poor job and I was not very pleased to hear that. Should getting an enhancement fix this since they will be re-opening the flap? Man do I regret doing lasik =(

i think they just re open the flap. I don't think your eyes are healed enough to make a new flap. I think that takes a couple of years for your eyes to heal to that extent. They probably can re open it, then flatten it out again.

YES IT IS WORTH IT!!! I was a -9 so 1 surgery didn't do the trick. 2nd sugery was friday & it worked. I'm 20/20! My night vision is better than it had ever been. No starbursts, just a very very minimal halo but nowhere near as bad as it was. It was pretty unbearable before! To do the enhancement, just before surgery the dr manually lifted the flaps with a little tool. Then during surgery he flatteend each flap & that took quite a long time, longer than I thought it would, but he seemed pretty meticulous (sp?) about it. If you are concerned about the shape of your flap, your enhancement consultation will answer your questions. During my consult, I was explained of all the possible complicatinos & risks. It all depends on the shape of your flap & the amount of cornea that is left to work with. In most cases the enhancement will work or they will just flat out tell you that you aren't a candidate. For me, it not only made it better but my original flap had a slight wrinkle in it that the 2nd surgery took care of.

I think you should go for it!!!!

thanks so much for the responses, I think I will go ahead with the enhancement.

One thing I forgot to ask is how long is the recovery time after an enhancement? Is it shorter than the first time you get lasik? Thanks!

I'm not sure. I'm less than a week out and I'm hurting. I have an appointment tomorrow. I am really sore so I can't wait to see what the dr. says. But, that being said, I do not regret doing it. The results were worth it & even though I'm sore, I know I was last time too & the pain was temporary.

I think you made the right decision!!!!

How much more cost/or expensive is the enhancement ?
Is it as expensive as the original lasix that was done ?

Re: Is an enhancement worth it?

are you certain you need an enhancement? i had my surgery done in december of 06, and my eyes weren't fully healed until the following june. my left eye was very fuzzy and after three months, at a follow up appointment they told me my eye was very dry and that i needed to use more drops. my vision started improving shortly after i started using more drops (tears), but it still took several more months before my vision was really clear. could this be the case with you?

cvoor: most reputable lasik centers offer a plan that includes free enhancements if your eyesight ever deteriorates, or if you don't achieve 20/20 vision the first time.... the plan is usually the most expensive plan, but i definitely think it's worth it!!!
