    Lukemia blood work help!!

    Hello,

My father was diagnosed with chronic lymphatic leukemia, and his white blood cell count has been rising steadily. He just recently went in for some blood work, and the doctor usually does it right on the spot, but this time he said my fathers red blood cells were clotting and he couldnt do the blood work. He had to send out the blood to another location to get the work done. My father is very worried as to what this could mean, and I have been frantically scouring the internet to find out what the cause may be, with no avail. Does anybody know what this means? Please help.

    Re: Lukemia blood work help!!

You don't mention your fathers' age but I can tell you about my experiences with CLL. I was diagnosed in 2008 (55 yrs old) and we were going to "watch & wait" before treatment. My WBC skyrocketed so the decision was made to start chemotherapy which I finished in April of 2009. Since then my WBC is absolutely normal! Other than tiring easily, I feel fine! Tell your dad not to worry. They're doing amazing things nowadays with the chemotherapy and there's also hope with bone marrow transplants and stem cell research is ongoing. I met with Dr. Koen Vonbessien at the University of Chicago Hospital who is one of the top Leukemia specialists in the field. Be sure your dad registers with the Bone Marrow Donor registry, listen to his Dr.'s and keep a journal for reference. I kept a journal of my experiences and it helped me alot as time went on. Best of luck! Gary
