High monocytes, when to be concerned?

13 year old boy -extreme fatigue, bone pain, intermittent stomach pain, loss of appetite - went to general physician. Blood count revealed monocyte count of 16 with low red blood cells, hematocrit, hemoglobin and slightly high eosinophils. Doctor said to supplement with iron pills. I am concerned about the monocyte count, might it indicate something more than iron deficiency? Thank you.

Re: High monocytes, when to be concerned?

MONO cytes high, indicative of an infection, may be chronic, might indicate mono as well. Or also can indicate leukemia, <worse case scenario though>. Might also indicate an underlying immune deficiency. Your doctor, can do a titer of antibody testing from his vaccinations. Good luck,
