    Post Liver Hemangioma

    Hi All,

Last Fall I was diagnosed with a 5cm Hemangioma of the Liver. The pain is generally in my right upper ribcage towards the back. It's more of an irritating feeling, rubbing, and discomfort more than anything. When I saw the surgeon he had indicated if it was not bothering me at the time, for quality of life they would just leave it alone and follow it.

My fear is it is acting up again, and I have read horror stories on follow up. The complexities of a Liver surgery, recovery, complications, etc.

I'm looking for help, any advice? If the pain does not subside by the end of the week I will be going back to the surgeon for follow up. I am just scared and need some reassurance, if at all possible.

Has anyone had success with changing their diets, positions, stretching, hot compress, cold, anything? Success with surgery?

    Thank you for your time!

    Re: Liver Hemangioma

Hi. A liver Hemangioma is nothing more than a non cancerous mass- sort of like a bruise or a tangled area of blood vessels. They normally do not cause any pain.

I have lived with one for years- it shows up on my scans but it really doesn't bother me . I didnt even know I had it until I had my gallbaldder removed and it showed up on the scans.

There are surgeries which can numb that area by injecting a numbing agent into the area and this is usually done by a pain specialist or anesthesiologist at the hospital. When I inquired about it I was told they do it in the office- while you are awake and it takes 4 minutes to do.
You may want to ask your surgeon if he knows what I am talking about and who you might see to help relieve your would be allot better than surgery!

    Good luck!
