Sudden Liver Problems After Unrelated Surgery

I have been healthy all my life. Liver function tests have all been normal, including June 2021.

I had robotic surgery repair for an umbilical hernia earlier this month. It went very well, I was home within 3 hours. No difficulty healing or recovering. No elevated temp. On the 3rd day I noticed very dark urine, light colored stools and itching all over my body, often acute. I looked up this combination of symptoms and it pointed toward my liver. I quickly saw my GP, who ordered more blood tests. The liver functions were an off the chart fail, sometimes 6 or 8 times the high normal value. I still have a normal temp, and there is no pain, so the GP is not sure. I have an ultra sound exam scheduled to look for a blockage or other issue, possibly involving gall bladder. I'm guessing that a liver specialist will be involved after that.

Frankly, I'm very worried in the meantime. I find it very hard to think that having surgery and almost immediately having liver problems are not related. I'm not looking to cast blame, but I hope we can figure it out and find a treatment that is hopefully non-surgical. I'm also concerned that this is dragging out. Does that make it worse, or make after-effects longer lasting? I'm looking for any advice or figurative hand-holding that other members might have to offer. Thanks.
