    Red Hands

    Hi,

I have a weird "problem" (at least I hope it isn't a problem). Whenever my hands are down to my side, they get red. I have read that red hands could be a sign of cirrhosis.

However, I am unsure if that is the problem, because my hands become totally normal-looking when I bring them back up to my chest or above my head... but when I put them back down, they get red again. Whenever I lift (such as in working out), my hands get even redder...

Does this sound like a symptom of cirrhosis? I have read about a couple other blood-vessel dilation problems... but my hands are never pale, never unexpectedly cold, and never blue-ish. (I'm male... by the way... apparently estrogen and pregnancy can cause red hands... but I guess I can count that out)

Thank you for any info you might have!

    Re: Red Hands

Sounds more like a circulation issue to me.

If you had cirrhosis, you'd definitely know about it because you'd be very very sick....

In any case, you're always best off speaking with a doctor about it first. They can run the tests needed to confirm if anything is going on with your liver.

    Re: Red Hands

I had prostate cancer surgery 6-28-06 and then had 35 treatments of Radiation that was over in Decemver 06.
About 3 months ago I started having red hands, when I worked with my hands or when I put them in water. Also, my hands have a funny feeling all the time. They feel like they have fine stickers in them or like they are partly
    a sleep.
I have checked with my Urologist, as I get a Zolidax shot every three months
and I thought that could be causing it, He said no. I talked to the radiologist
and he said the Radiation did not cause it. I had a fell check up with my internist and found nothing to cause it.
In other words the Doctor's don't know.
I am 76 years old and play Mandolin with a group at nursing homes, but may have to quit if I don't find out the problem, as my hands are getting to the point that it hurts to use them. Anyone have any answers. thanks. wesil

    Thumbs up Re: Red Hands

    Hi
I have had red blotches on my hands since the age of about 14 yrs( did not start to drink until about seventeen) I was told by a friend at school that the redness on my hands meant that I had a blood disorder , I took no notice as you do when your a teenager ....by the age of 32 I have Hemochromotosis (genetic) and because it went unchecked I developed Osteoporosis ,Arthritis which I have been told by my liver specialist was caused by the iron overload being unchecked . I also have other health problems on top of the others and I am only 45 yr old Male......

IT MAY BE NOTHING ! BUT IT WILL NOT HURT TO ASK YOUR DOCTOR
GO AND GET IT CHECKED OUT ,DO NOT IGNORE IT! AS I DID: :
