    Smile Pregnancy w/ Hepatic Adenoma

I recently found out my husband and I are expecting our 2nd child. While this is a cause for celebration it also brings up fears. In 2006 while preforming another surgery my surgeon found a hepatic adenoma on my liver. I've had MRI's every 6 months since. The last MRI was in June and the adenoma was 1.6cm. My liver specialist seems to think monthly ultrasounds of the area will keep us apprised of the situation. I've read the articles on this, but wondered if others have gone through this and what their outcomes were. Thanks, MJ

Hi Melissa - I personally wasn't pregnant when they found my adenomas. However, I do know someone else who was in a similar situation. They found hers via ultrasound in Month 7. They ended up monitoring and then removing it four weeks after she had her baby. When they found it I think it was around 7cm. I also know she was able to get that large of one removed via a laparscopic liver resection.

I had three adenomas, two were pretty small (around 2-3 cm). They even told me I could potentially get pregnant with them closely monitoring the tumors throughout the pregnancy.

I think you're pretty lucky that you found them small.

    Good luck with everything!

Have you had your adenomas removed or are they still being monitored? I have three that were discovered after one ruptured a little over a year ago, and my doctor has decided to wait on surgery and just monitor me. They are 3.5x2.9 cm, 2.3x2.8cm, and 3.1x2.6cm. I go back on October 1 for another CT to see if there is any change. I had been taking the pill for about 20 years, so they think that is the cause, and now that I've been off the pill since May 07, they are hoping that the size of these has not increased.

I think there's someone over on the FNH/Hepatic Adenoma thread who has had a pregnancy with her adenoma. Yours is pretty small, and they will probably monitor you more often to check for growth. When I was discussing the possibility of surgery, my doctor said it wouldn't be a problem, but at the time we thought they were going to be removed. I am not trying to get pregnant right now...just trying to find the right guy to settle down with first! Good luck to you, and please let us know how you are doing.
