    Child w/high bilirubin

I need some insight. My daughter started having a low grade fever, red rash, not eating well and dark brown urine. The doctor believes she looks jaundice which I don't really see. He did blood tests and called me today to say her direct bilirubin is high which indicates some trouble with the liver. Since she is still eating and has energy, he wants to wait and repeat the test on Monday. Can someone give me some insight as to what this could be? My daughter is 12 and has Down Syndrome. Her ability to communicate is affected so I am really afraid I will miss something and it will be too late to get her help. He didn't really explain what could cause this and I was in shock. Now he is on vacation until next week. Can children have gallstones? Please someone help!!
