Pancreatitis symptoms, but not pancreatitis. Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction?

Hi,

I have some questions regarding as to what my husband might suffer from. Doctors have not been able to find out and seem to have given up.

Some/most of symptoms are similar to those of chronic pancreatitis - but he does not have chronic pancreatitis. He has had ongoing tests for this for a year and half.

He does not drink, never has. He never took any medication until a couple of years ago (he's now on insulin).

One person mentioned Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction to me as a possibility. Don't know much about this illness.

My husband's symptoms:

-severe back/chest pain (inside the ribcage). These pains come and go. Can persist for days/weeks and be anything from medium to severe (severity varies). He can also be ok for a while, with not pain.

-he has secondary diabetes which was discovered two years ago and is now on insulin. Cause for this is not known.

-he has pancreatic cysts. When one is removed a new one comes. Cause not known.

-he had severe acute pancreatitis two years ago, but his inflammation levels have been normal ever since. The cause was never discovered

-he gets diarrhea easily and often bleeds when using the bathroom. Whenever I put my head to his stomach it sounds like there's a waterfall going on in there - this sound is constant

Does any of you have an idea of what he might have? It's possible it's several of different things

Your husband and I could almost be twins. Exactly the same has happened to me over the last 6 months although I am not diabetic. Had my gallbladder removed but symptoms returned, stomach pain radiating to the back, nausea, chills, diarhoea (but no blood) generally feeling terrible. Some good days some horrendous. Now have to have a sphincter of oddy test but have read these tests can cause pancreatitis so not sure which way I will go. From what I have read we are not alone, but that is little comfort when feeling as sick as a dog

I also have pancreatic cysts called IPMN cysts. They can turn Cancerous. Of course found when being tested for another problem. I do not have any symptoms from them. Is your husbands cysts IPMN? I went to Johns Hopkins cyst clinic to have them diagnosed. How is he doing as I see this was posted awhile ago?

I went for tests at JH and had a ERCP that removed as much fluid as possible from the IPMN (appears I have several of them thru out the pancreas and are called side branch) but it was not definitive as to it being cancerous. So weighing out all things they wanted to wait and I will be returning in Aug for a new test they have to be sure it is a IPMN be measuring the KRAS of the gene. They want to keep monitoring me with yearly CT scans. My liver and kidney and spleen seem to have cysts also. All worrisome.

JH is great but I'd get a second opinion you don't want to mess with this. I'd check out the JH MSG board too it's great infor re pc
