Dry cough and tickling feeling in lungs

I have been diagnosed with chronic sinusitis and also have laryngeal reflux and take medication for it. My ENT told me when I was diagnosed that a cough is involved with this. In the last two months, my cough is getting worse and sometimes I cough while trying to talk. The last couple of weeks, I have noticed a tickling feeling in my lungs when I take a deep breath. It doesn't hurt and I don't have shortness of breath. The cough doesn't happen when I sleep, but starts when I first get out of bed in the morning. It isn't going away. Any idea what this might be? I'm planning on going in to my GP and explaining this. I am a 65 year old female with no history of lung or heart problems. This tickling feeling did not happen when I saw her in July as she was checking my lungs at that time and it didn't bother me to hold my breath at that time.

Are you on any high blood pressure med or statin?

If it's post nasal drip, you can try sinus rinse twice a day....I use the NeilMed sqeeze bottle I have to mix with filtered warm water.
You can also ask the doc for a nasal steroid spray that might help.

Yes, I am on both high blood pressure and statin meds. And I also have the post nasal drip. ENT said that is why I cough after getting up.

Yes, laryngeal reflux. No more heartburn, but the postnasal drip and cough are still there.

What meds are you on for that?
I suggest you ask for allergy tests, maybe try Singulair, use a sinus wash, try a nasal steroid and possibly a lung inhaler to calm those reactions.
Maybe see a pulmonologist and be checked for asthma.

I am on Omeprazole. We do have asthma in the family. I may have to go in and get this checked and mention that as well. Thank you for your suggestions.

I was going to suggest cough variant asthma. Good idea to get it checked out.

I looked it up and the symptoms I've got all seem to point towards this kind of asthma. I had never heard of "cough variant" asthma. At least I have something I can run by my doctor, at least for a start. Thank you all so much for your suggestions.

I have cough variant asthma....it can progress in an attack if laughing, during a cold or anything that can cause airway irritation in general. Before you see the specialist, make a list of occasions you notice the coughing.

    Let us know the outcome.

Re: Dry cough and tickling feeling in lungs

Went to the doctor Wednesday. The doctor thought it was due to my blood pressure med, Lisinoprol, as other patients on that drug had the same symptoms after years of being on it. They did a chest x-ray and the radiologist said they found the beginnings of pneumonia in one of my lungs. So I was told to stay on the drug and they prescribed something for the pneumonia, so it wasn't the asthma after all. I hadn't been sick before this, no fever, cold, bronchitis, or anything. I have been under extreme stress for over a year with close relatives dying within weeks of each other last year to my husband being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this April, so not sure if stress or being run down might have brought this on, but this is the final diagnosis.
