    Nebulized Lidocaine for chronic cough????

    Hi,
Was just wondering if anyone has heard of this treatment. I have Lupus that has affected my lungs. I had a open lung biopsy this past November and was diagnosed with interstitial lung disease. My pulmonary Dr has tried several medications high dose prednisone etc and it seems that I really don't respond. I have a lot of inflamation and the cough seems to make it worse. Last week when I saw my pulmonary Dr he wants me to try 1% Lidocaine via the nebulizer. He said that this would stop the cough for a while and try to relive some of the inflamation. Has anyone ever done this? I will begin chemo for the lupus in hopes of a remission but in the mean time he thought this might help. I appreciate any response.
    All the best,
    Liz

Thanks so much for the reply. I am still a bit worried about doing this at home. I am thinking that maybe this shoud be done under medical supervision. Maybe there are others that have done this and could share there experience.
    Thanks

I would suggest doing the first treatment in the MD's office in case of any adverse reactions.
