Prednisone

I feel like I need something more than plaquenil to treat my lupus,. I've been in a flare for 2 weeks and it's getting harder and harder to push through the pain . I'm self employed and also pick up and run around 2 grandkids from their respective schools . So what do you guys do ? I'm taking way too much Advil these days. I hate the side affects of prednisone but may have to go there . Is anyone on continuous use of prednisone and I wonder what the lowest dose I can take would be.?
Thank you .

Re: Prednisone

My dad had RA and he took 5mg a day. Never could get below that. I take plaquenil, methotrexate and relaphen.

I have lupus and RA and take placquenil, methotrexate, and prednisone 10 mg a day. Have been on all 3 for many years. Initially it took 20mg prednisone a day to suppress the symptoms. If you have frequent flares, something like methotrexate may be preferable to long term prednisone because of side effects. I would talk to your rheum about the choices for stepping up your treatment.
