Clogged ears, speech difficulties and swallowing issues - new Lupus diagnosis

Hello I'm 40 yo. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 7 years ago. And just this last week with lupus.

I'm completely lost with the new diagnosis of lupusas I have really No clue what to expect and have no idea if the of symptoms I'm experiencing is lupus or not.
For months now I have had clogged ears, I canhear myself breath and talk inside my head. This also affects my speech at the Same time. My speech comes out either completely too low or slurred. I have a hard time swallowing at the same time.
Dues anyone else have this issue with lupus?

Hi Jamielynn. Since lupus is such a complex disease that affects many different systems of the body, I would highly recommend you get a good book that explains the illness and the many symptoms that can accompany it. We all tend to get some of the symptoms, not all of them, so read the book with that in mind. Many lupus people have allergies, and that can affect the Eustachian tubes of the ears causing symptoms like you describe. Very large tonsils can also cause these symptoms because the tonsils block the tubes from draining. A decongestant can help and so can an antihistamine if allergies are involved. Nasal steroid sprays, now available OTC can help too. A visit to your Dr or an ear, nose, throat specialist would be helpful for an exam, history and diagnosis. I have lupus and have had these symptoms frequently in past. Annoying to say the least. Mine are caused by allergies, but I wonder about your tonsils since you have trouble swallowing too. Let us know what you find out and I hope you get some relief!
