Need some advice on test results

I got blood work done by rheumatologist as i have all the symptoms of lupus. Negative ana and negative anti bodies. But i have a low C3 and Almost below average C4. Also blood in urine. I have had blood in urine for a while. I see a urologist. Kidneys and everything was looked at. All normal. But i still have blood in urine. Doctor blew off the low C3 and blood in urine. I get sick all the time. I also take no medication other than multi vitamins and 1 keflex after sex to prevent uti's (which i startes that after i already had blood in my urine)

My question is should i seek out another rheumatologist for a second opinion?

I am concerend about the low C3 abd boarder C4 and blood in my urine all the time.

All other lab work was somewhat normal. Boarder high of MCHC

    Hi Cassgz0424,

Which came first, the symptoms of lupus or Keflex? I'm asking because antibiotics are said to disrupt intestinal flora. The latest scientific thinking is that when you distroy your healthy microorganisms, it can lead to autoimmune issues.

Antibiotics can save your life when you need them. But at the same time there's a downside. An antibiotic doesn't just work in one area of your body, it destroys bacteria everywhere, including friendly intestinal flora needed for a healthy immune system.

This problem might be compounded by a persons lifestyle. Conversely, it could be an adverse lifestyle compounded by Keflex.

Symptoms of lupus started first, then blood in urine all the time with constant infections. My immune system was destroyed way before keflex was started and i do not take it all the time. Just one pill after sex. If i dont then i get a UTI. I am now allergic to all UTI antibiotics and i was never in my life alllergic to them before. I wasnt allergic to anything. So this was way before the start of keflex

I am now allergic to all UTI medications which i never was before. I could take any medication. Now i am allergic to medications i wasnt allergic to before. So that was the reason behind the keflex. Things were completely destroyed on my body way before the keflex.

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia a few years ago but now new symptoms arose that docs thought it was lupus.

Keflex taken regularly can do in your liver...and cause blood in your urine... not sure why the doctors think its okay to take Keflex to prevent UTIs after sex....it only works if you take it for 5 -10 days...and if you don't , you are building up an antibiotic resistance.

There are other things you can do to prevent UTIs- drinking plenty of fluids, peeing before and after sex- cranberry pills- these things do work.

Has your partner been checked? Are you sure you arent passing this back and forth because your partner has a UTI?

I have been with my husband for 16 years.

It is not just about the utis.

This started 3 years ago with me getting food poisioning. Then after that everthing changed. I have never been the same. Blood in urine and uti started. Gluten sensitivity. Headache. I cannot walk for long periods of time. I cant stay on my feet long periods of time.my legs hurt so bad. On top of rashes on body and face, brain fog. Dry mouth severe. And this list goes on. So after my blood work ( from question above, i am just wondering on if i should get a second opinion from another doc??

I an 36. 4'11 and 90 lbs. I have been healthy and active my entire life.

Now i can barely do anything

And this all started after getting food poisoning 3 years ago

What did the treatment consist of? Proper treatment is needed to ensure a full recovery. Perhaps you felt better at first but something from the food poisoning was not completely cleared up. Did you go to the hospital? GP? Did you have a followup exam to make sure the virus or bacteria was completely out of your system?

Was it a virus or bacteria?

Re: Need some advice on test results

    Never went to the hospital.

But i have seen so many different specialists and had every blood work done i can think of.

So the only blood work that is abnormal is my C3 is below normal and blood in urine. All other blood work is normal. And no bacteria in urine.

So now i am wondering if i should get a second opinion bu another rheumatologist.

    I cant even work anymore

I cant stay on my feet for long periods of time along with a million other symptoms

Only thing I was ever diagnosed with was Fibromyalgia
