Plaquenil Side Effects of Anxiety and Depression?

I've been on plaquenil for a very long time - maybe 15 years. I saw a new rhuemie today who said I should take a break & see how I feel with some anti-inflammatories, a good diet, exercise and rest. (It's the "rest" part that I don't get - 54 years young & hot flashing, ugh.)

So, I went online to see what the side effects were. I was amazed to see anxiety & depression listed. I've been treated for depression for - let's see - about 15 years & have had anxiety issues also. It seems like my anxiety/depression intersects with the beginning of plaquinel.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Re: Plaquenil Side Effects of Anxiety and Depression?

sorry I have had aniexty for some time now, I guess around 10-12 yrs. I had other side effect form palquenil like rash all over my body so I was taken off of it. When I researched about the aniexty it said that is can be associated with Lupus. I was diagnoised with General aniexty disorder. Knowing what is going on with yourself and what maybe the trigger is good. just keep an eye on it and keep tracking it.

I think anyone with a chronic disease deserves to be depressed. I don't associate mine with the plaquenil but could be...I've been on for 15 years.

Re: Plaquenil Side Effects of Anxiety and Depression?

Hi, I was at my most anxious as my rashes, fatigue, pain, GI & urinary issues, headaches, etc. were on the rise, and I was also in perimenopause at the time. I was later told that lupus LOVES hormonal shifts. So I came to view my increased anxiety as stemming from the disease & my stage of life, not from the med. I love Plaquenil, as it's helped so much. But, really, I'm wonder if there is a surefire way to separate cause & effect? Anyway, I hope you're doing well in the main. Sending you my best wishes, Vee
