Need Help!!! I Cant Figure This Out

Why is it so hard to be diagnosed? Its sad enough that I am waiting for a doctor to say you have this or you have that. Im sick and tired of suffering and cannot find any treatment. I just got my adrenal results back and they were fine. Also did a colonoscopy and endoscope and no signs of celiac or parasites. Thyroid is in normal range with me being on synthroid and cytomel. Done MRI's, Sleep studies, Ekg's you name it. Tried every anti depressant out there and they did not help. My life is on hold because of my health. I am a very aggressive person so I never give up. But this is getting out of hand, GOD needs to shine some light on me. Can anyone help me? I ordered a candida test from a online company since I dont know what doctor treats that. Second is me doing a western blot for Lyme. Here are my symptoms.......

Constant fatigue (More severe after eating and get leg cramps)
    Depression (worse after eating)
    Hair falls out excessively
    dry skin
    feet always cold
    body temperature is always 97.1-97.6
    trouble with hand writing now
when i change my diet by eliminating alot of carbs and sugar- depression lifts for about a week. then symptoms come back
    diarrhea and constipation rotates
    irritable/moody
cannot think clear at all, brain fog
    alot of gas
unrefreshed sleep/ very achy when I get up
    obsessive compulsive at times/unwanted thoughts
trouble speaking/cant think of right words/mind goes blank
    low libido
bad breath<-- dont know if thats a symptom
heart races after meal with carbs and sugar and body starts to ache

wdiguy, welcome-- have you contacted a Lyme Literate MD to get the western blots done? If you do have them done make sure that they are done by Igenex Labs in Palo Alto, CA. You do have Lyme symptoms and I would definately get tested for Lyme and co-infections, since nothing else has come up to explain your symptoms. I have most of the same symptoms that you do, and so does everyone else I know with Lyme. Sarah

Re: Need Help!!! I Cant Figure This Out

    Hi wdiguy, welcome the board!

I am sorry you have been so sick. I know it is frustrating trying to find out what is wrong.

Regarding your thyroid, do you have copies of your latest tests? Have you had the Free T3, Free T4 (besides the T3 and T4) and thyroid antibodies tested in addition to the normal panel? They are not usually done but are necessary for a comprehensive view. Realize that even if your results are in the normal range, they may not be optimal. It sounds like your thyroid treatment is not regulated yet.

If you need help interpreting your results, I can help or you can post them on the thyroid board at this site. The people there are great. Make sure you post the lab ranges with the results, they can vary by lab. Some people, including myself, have Lyme and a thyroid disorder.

Below is a Lyme symptom list. You can have any combination of symptoms.

Unexplained fevers, sweats, chills, or flushing
    Unexplained weight change--loss or gain
    Fatigue, tiredness, poor stamina
    Unexplained hair loss
    Swollen glands
    Sore throat
    Testicular pain/pelvic pain
    Unexplained menstrual irregularity
    Unexplained milk production: breast pain
    Irritable bladder or bladder dysfunction
Sexual dysfunction or loss of libido
    Upset stomach
    Change in bowel function-constipation, diarrhea
    Chest pain or rib soreness
    Shortness of breath, cough
Heart palpitations, pulse skips, heart block
Any history of a heart murmur or valve prolapse?
    Joint pain or swelling
Stiffness of the joints, neck, or back
    Muscle pain or cramps
Twitching of the face or other muscles
    Headache
Neck creeks and cracks, neck stiffness, neck pain
Tingling, numbness, burning or stabbing sensations, shooting pains
    Facial paralysis (Bell's Palsy)
Eyes/Vision: double, blurry, increased floaters, light sensitivity
Ears/Hearing: buzzing, ringing, ear pain, sound sensitivity
lncreased motion sickness, vertigo, poor balance
    Lightheadedness, wooziness
    Tremor
    Confusion, difficulty in thinking
    Difficulty with concentration, reading
    Forgetfulness, poor short term memory
Disorientation: getting lost, going to wrong places
    Difficulty with speech or writing
    Mood swings, irritability, depression
Disturbed sleep-too much, too little, early awakening
Exaggerated symptoms or worse hangover from alcohol

It is very important to see a knowledgeable doctor. Many doctors do not understand Lyme and treat with outdated protocols. No test is completely reliable, and results can vary by lab.

Besides Lyme, ticks can transmit several co-infections including Babesiosis, Ehrlichiosis (HME & HGE), Bartonella, and Mycoplasma. It is estimated that 60% of people who have Lyme are co-infected. It may affect treatment choice and progress. It is important to be tested for these by a Lyme reputable lab such as IgeneX in Palo Alto, CA.

What part of FL are you in? If you need a doctor recommenda-tion, let us know.

It is also important to learn as much as possible. I recommend reading Dr. Joseph Burrascano's 2005 Diagnostic Hints and Treatment Guidelines For Lyme and Other Tick Borne Illnesses. He is one of the top Lyme doctors in the country, and many Lyme doctors follow his protocols. I also recommend the book "Everything You Need To Know About Lyme Disease (2nd edition)" by Karen Vanderhoof-Forschner.

Do not give up. You will find out what is wrong. Hang in there okay?

Re: Need Help!!! I Cant Figure This Out

Thank you Sarah and Ticker. I have been messing with my thyroid back and forth. I have it at 4.94 right now. I use Cytomel for my T3 and nothing seems to help the way I feel. Whenever I up my dose of thyroid or go on a diet I get temporary relief of the fatigue and depression but then it sets back in after 4-7 days. It seems when I shock my body with something it throws off the symtoms but it ends up being short term.

Re: Need Help!!! I Cant Figure This Out

I just remembered a couple of other symptoms that I had..... its weird that they come and go or change. I used to get muscle twitches on my mouth, nose, thigh, and arm. Gone now for the time being. I have it now where I am always grinding/biting down on my teeth. I get something new like every 2-3 months.

Sorry one more thing, i live in Florida so if you have a list of doctors over here that would be great. I will call ASAP to see if this is the problem.

    Thanks again!

Hi wdiguy. What part of FL are you in? Dr. Michael Cichon in Temple Terrace (near Tampa) comes highly recommended. Some members here see him.

Hi wdiguy. Can you post the results of your Free T3 and Free T4? Have you had your antibodies tested? You cannot go by the TSH alone although many doctors do.

It can be hard to find a doctor to properly manage your thyroid, but it is not impossible.

no I dont have those results. I dont know when the last time I was tested. I have a question also...... If my body feels better when they up my dose for thyroid do you think that lyme is a possibility? my fatigue goes away and everything. but I dont feel completly better but 90%.

Re: Need Help!!! I Cant Figure This Out

It is always possible to have Lyme and a thyroid disorder. If you feel 90% better after a dose increase of your thyroid meds, you may be dealing with only a thyroid disorder. You may not have yet been optimally treated.

It can take time to find a doctor who is willing to work with your symptoms. I highly recommend that you have those specific thyroid tests done, see what the results are, and go from there.
