    Rifampin and Vitamin D

    Hello,

If anybody has taken or is currently taking Rifampin, you might want to get your Vitamin D levels checked. I read that Rifampin increases vitamin D metabolism and reduces vitamin D blood levels. The need for vitamin D supplementation might be warranted. I was on Rifampin for three months so this pretty well assures me of my deficiency. I haven't had my levels checked, but I have a hunch that they are low. I also read if it hurts to press firmly on your sternum, you may be suffering from chronic vitamin D deficiency. I had/have this problem as well. Very interesting. I am finding out that this vitamin plays a very important role in the body. Might be something you want to look at. A deficiency can cause a host of symptoms/problems.

    Re: Rifampin and Vitamin D

It seems like some people who have Lyme disease also have a vitamin D deficiency. I am deficient in vitamin D, but I have never taken Rifampin.

    Interesting...
