severe headaches with left side joint pain

I have been out of work for six months now due to severe headaches and neck pain. I also had extreme exhaustion and was sleeping 20 hours a day. I had a sleep study done and have sleep apnea, but very slight. High blood pressure thats under control and eye tests done that resulted in glasses. I've had blood tests for everything including Lyme with it coming back clean. Xrays of my neck show degenerative disc along with arthritis and a bone spur. MRI of my brain shows no abnormalities and all neurologists tests come back clear. My neck, when left in one position for more than a few minutes, pops and sends a shooting pain into my head. This pain travels mostly up the left side of my head, then shoots forward to my left eye. The headaches are constant and measure an 8 on the scale, but a 10+ a few times a day. While I've been out, I've now developed pain in the joints but only on the left side of my body. Started out with elbow, then knee, then shoulder and now ankle. I have no fever or any other flu like symptoms I havent had a weight loss or gain, just pain. I'm 48 and have had good health until now. Thank you!

Re: severe headaches with left side joint pain

    wetsubohica,

It's been a few years since I posted. I just happened to drop in. My wife was diagnosed with Lymes disease 5 years ago. Her LLMD had the integrity to finally tell her he had done all he could do and recommended a dentist in the Pacific Northwest. A dentist you ask?

This dentist was one of the most prominent in the state specializing in TMJ. Trouble is he was greatly bothered by the great amount of surgical invasion for so little movement. He began devising oral appliances, and in the process discovered that peoples health problems greatly improved with their individualized application. So my wife went to see the dentist, and we now doubt that she really had Lymes as her symptoms slowly diminish. Her braces and dental work in youth changed the shape of her jaw so that her mouth was too small for her tongue. Her tongue was forced back in her throat causing all sorts of havoc via her autonomic nervous system. For example, her seizures were caused by her uvula intermittently contacting her epiglottis----made her body think she was choking which caused the autonomic nervous system to surge adrenalin which manifested in body tremors.

Think about how complex the throat is as it coordinates breathing, chewing, swallowing, coughing, speaking, sneezing, gagging, etc. mostly autonomic and unconscious. You can't kill yourself by choosing to hold your breath.

What we learned is that trouble in the oral system can cause symptoms like yours. I was having chest pain, heart arrythmia, difficulty breathing, and snored. I wear an appliance myself now, and breathing is incredibly easy. Maybe this seems odd to post on the Lyme Board, but again, I can only report our experience. We have spent tens of thousands of dollars on traditional and alternative treatments. This is the most optimistic of all. BUT we never saw a tick or bullet, just kept chasing symptoms. The treatment protocol is Oral System Balancing or Oral System Biology more recently if you want to do some research. Sorry for being so long winded.

    Mike

Re: severe headaches with left side joint pain

Hi, I have very similar symptoms as far as pain is concerned, especially 'neck/head' - I am being treated for lyme, I had a 'clinical diagnosis' by an LLMD. Blood tests for lyme are unreliable. If you suspect you have lyme then the best advice I can give you is to get an appointment with an LLMD.[lyme literate medical doctor]. Your symptoms could well be lyme, with all the sleeping/fatigue too.

For now you could try something for your neck pain which I have found very helpful - I wear a 'neck support collar' to bed, to prevent me from laying with my neck in any 'awkward' positions. I get cracking/popping sounds/sensations in my neck and it can make me very anxious. I have found the 'collar' very good. [just 'google' neck support collar]

I also have mostly 'one-sided' pain in hip/thigh/knee/shin/ankle. My neck pain started following a 'tick bite' - I removed the tick so know what bit me!

    Best wishes
