    Elevated Platelets

    good morning,

Just wanted to see if anyone else out there has ever experienced a high platelet count. Almost 3 yrs ago my daughter who was 12 at the time started getting ill with symptoms that at first were thought to be Lyme's disease, but that was later ruled out.( she was treated for a few weeks with Lymes medication which caused her to vomit each time she took the meds) Originally when her blood work came back her platelet count was over 1 million and over the last few years has gone down to as low as around 600,000, but has never returned to a normal range. We have seen countless doctors and specialists, had tons of blood work done, an ultrasound, mri and cat scan and all that was ever found was irregular shaped megakaryocytes, which the hematologist just wants to continue following. She has also had some genetic testing done but everything comes back normal. After about 8 months or so her symptoms did stop ( aching joints, low grade fever of around 100, heahces and extreme fatigue) however her platelets have never returned to normal. I had at one point gathered all of her records and went for a second opinion, the second doctor ( about a year ago) stated that if he HAD to diagnosis something it would be essential thrombocytosis, but felt as if it was still to early to decide. I of course did some research on this and it seems like this is something that mostly only older people get.. like people who are over 60. My daughter is now only 15 and I'm wondering when if ever we will have a diagnosis. Has anyone else had anything at all similar to this???
