    Rifampin, Azithromycin, Plaquenil Regimen Question

    Hi All,

What do you guys think of Rifampin, Azithromycin, and Plaquenil as a regimen for early treatment? I got a tick bite couple weeks ago, started antibiotics 5 days after bite. Doctor put me on Doxy, Azithromycin, Plaquenil, but I was developing paresthesia from the doxy on my hands after sun exposure, so he replaced it with Rifampin.

I have no idea if I have co-infections. Assuming I don't, is my current regimen effective against just borrelia? What I'm reading says that Rifampin is more for co-infections. Also, how long would you guys suggest I continue with treatment. Pretty sure I haven't had any symptoms. I'm thinking 6.5 weeks.

    Thanks!

Spiros, my treatment consisted of all of the 3 abx you mention here. A total of 2000mg per day. I had long term infection so that is why so aggressive. My doctor thought I had bartonella also. Since I was so ill with severe neurological issues, I remained on treatment over 9 months. Make sure your doc has given you supplements to combat the abx reaction in your gut along with die off of the critters. Hope this fares as well for you as it did for me.

You're welcome spiros. Stick with the plan. Those meds helped alleviate about 90% of my issues and the list was very long, like 45 symptoms. I am left with some but can function and am happy with the outcome. Sending well wishes and recovery to you

Thanks for the reply. What herxing symptoms are you referring to? The only symptom I've had has been paresthesia on my hands after sun exposure, which is a pretty well known side effect of Doxycycline.
After I stopped the Doxy, it went away. Otherwise I feel fine. So pretty sure I've experienced no herxing.

I'm not detoxing or anything. I started this aggressive antibiotic regimen a few days after the tick bite, so I don't expect to need antibiotics much longer. Hoping to stop soon and that I'll be okay. Fingers crossed!

I understand about doxy. I wrote on the wrong post. Sorry!

Did you happen to have the tick tested?

I will have my fingers crossed for you also that you caught it in time!

Good Luck with all of this.
