    Testing for peri-menopause

I am going to the Dr. this friday and want to be tested for peri-meno and for my thyroid. What test will be done? I am on my period now and it will be just about over on friday, will that matter? I have dizziness really bad for about 9 months now, sinus problems that i've never had before, VERY cold, dry skin and alot of headaches. I've had the cat scan done and mri and they are all normal.

    I think i'm in peri-meno...oh, I'm 41

Please post what tests they do and the results. I am having same symptoms and more... sinus/head stuffiness, light-headed or what i call cotton head.. i am 45 and just diagnosed 4 months ago with Hypo-Thyroidism (very common this age/stage) but this other stuff in the head really affects my functioning when i am pre-menopausal, the most it seems. Just statred 6 months ago.

    Thanks

Well, My dr. did a hormone test and I Should have the result by tue. He still insists that my dizziness is from my sinuses, so he gave me a nose spray to use 2 times a day...maybe forever he said.

He did say that since my periods are longer but lighter that i'm probably in pre-menopause. The hormone tests should tell us more.

I don't think the dizziness is from sinuses....unless hormonal changes bring on the dizziness... i have been logging mine for about 5 years and all my symptoms come the week of my period and have been WORSENING as i get older.... the light headedness and spaciness started for me about 6 months ago and is REALLY bad a few days before my period.... what does your doc say can be done from the tests you will get results from on Tuesday? I am so tired of docs saying we are TOO young for menopause...it can last up to 10 years or more...

Did the nasal spray hlep with your dizziness yet? Please let me know...I am kinda desparate here...

    Thanks!

    Re: Testing for peri-menopause

I wanted to bump this post up since I can relate. I've been being treated for sinusitis since I started getting "dizzy" or lightheaded, and horrible headaches about 15 months ago. I haven't had a cold in 2 years and I never have any congestion. No anitibiotic, steroid, pain med, even sinus surgery has gotten totally rid of this feeling. I do experience a worsening of symptoms when the weather changes, expecially if rain or snow are coming in.

I am 37, will be 38. I have no children, had 4 miscarriages, 4 failed IVF's, and I wonder if my hormones have always been screwed up. I also wonder if all the hormone treatments, miss pregnancies, and the fact tht I never had children can be a factor for earlier than average menopause.

Any results from your hormone testing??

Well, everything came back normal. Hormones, thyroid and sugar levels are all normal. Still have a little of the dizziness. Dr. is now blaming it on tight muscles around my neck and shoulders. Going for massage therpy and it HAS help!

    Thanks Kellyuu,
If I could get a referral for massage, that would be great! They are sending me to a TMJ specialist and then back to a neurologist. I would just hate for them to ignore the perimenopause possibility. Thanks again!
