I'm 42 & was just confirmed menopausel. I've been having hot flashes for about a year & no period for about 9 mos. I weigh more now than I ever did! Doc said no to hormones (fine w/me) but am looking for relief on the hot flashes front. They said Lecithan would help but I found out that I'm already taking that included in another vitamin & it hasn't worked. Now that I know it might help, maybe I will try to take it more regularly. Funny, I always looked forward to the day that I'd not get my period anymore but this kinda sucks. LOL Guess we r never happy

she was 36, and I was 41, so I think that my 2 girls will go through it early, my oldest daughter is 35, and she has lupus, so she will go through it very early

Re: Any 40 year olds been through Perimenopause?

I see the average age is mid to late 40's and wanted to know if someone in their early 40's have experienced any menopause yet.

    Thanks ladies!

    Yes, I am.

I am 43 as of March, and have been having irregular cycles for a couple of years now.

Test after test showed my hormone levels as normal, until last month. The bad news finally was "finalized". I am perimenopausal or even menopausal. My FSH levels are very high.

I am not ready for this. We wanted one more child (we have one son), but that will never be now.

I also am too young to be old, but here I am.

So, yes, there are other early 40s women in menopause like you. I am, and I am extremely depressed about it.

This is a dumb question but I am not that familiar with menopause, but can't you still get pregnant when you are in "Pre" menopause?

From what I understand, you can get pregnant but it is very, very rare...sort of like hoping to win the lottery. My doctor told me that I might be fertile maybe 3 or 4 days a year and you never know when. I think it's a pretty remote possibility, at least for me.

Oh...I am so sorry about that. Well, you never know and if you do get pregnant, then you will know it is meant to be. We women have it so tough, men can't even fathum the idea of what we begin to go through! Please don't be depressed. I know this has got to be hard and with your body changing etc...but, keep your chin up and head held high! That's why these boards are here....so you can have the support that you need! Keep us posted on how you are doing!!!

My gyne said to use protection because when you are in peri or pre-menopause, you have no clue when you're ovulating and then all of sudden.....you're pregnant.
