Oh, I forgot, care less about sex right now. I know there is some stimulation there, but who cares! Also, dumped my boyfriend.

    Palpitations
Periods closer together (21 days) sometimes
If not close together then they are really heavy

I'm 39 and I have all that you have. Peri causes all sorts of hell. I think I forgot to put ibs in my list - only because I am on Zelnorm for it and all the gas is gone, the bloating is gone - it works. I go regularly now. Only thing, I have to watch what I eat - fatty foods kill me. How I miss Mickey D's!

Re: lets do a study, list symptoms

Hi, here is my list...it is not continual, in that I am not having these symtpoms all the time but the past few years have had them :

Nightsweats (more so a few months ago, with palpitations when I first got them, now seem to get them (nightsweats) only occassionally and not badly.

Prolonged PMS (meaning everything I normally would get with PMS ....moodswings, anxiety, feeling tired) , again not as bad now but was really at a peak this March and early April. In general my perimenopause has been mostly a prolonged feeling of Pms though.

Cramps are usual before my period but I can get them a bit week before.

periods used to be every 28 days but in my early to Mid 40s (I just turned 50 this year), they got to be where I could get them 22 days apart to 24 days. Had two times last year where it came at day 40 and then one cycle where it came on day 50. This year it has been day 25 until 2 months ago when I have now got it at day 31. Flow is very short for the most part...3 days. Have had times where it will come for 2 days, then nothing and then reappear a few days later, just lightly or brownish discharge.

Breast tenderness (although this is normal for me with my period and it comes only at that time.

Intestinal discomfort...diarhhea at times week before period. more of an irritable bowel and gas in peri. in general but it seems to be better now, thankfully.

Aching at time of what would be ovulation, in the area of ovaries and also referred type of aching in that area and above.

Back problem that I have (unrelated to peri) is at times more flared up during cycle.

My only complaint until this early March was just the shorter times between cycles and a bit more pms issues. Then March came and anxiety was rampant (dr gave me Xanax to take as needed) and intestines were very much in an uproar. I do think my anxiety really had a lot to do with this as it creates acidity in our system when we stress. I did not feel like myself at all all of March and into beginning of April. then later April to now has been much much better. Don't know what to attribute that to...I am taking Vitamin b complex every morning, Estroven vitamins which the doctor recommended and I am able to get back into a routine of exercise which I hadn't been able to do due to back and ankle problems (jazzercize, bike at gym and pilates). I have been reading a lot about the symptoms of peri and this has helped ease my anxiety as has this board.

Re: lets do a study, list symptoms

Hello Ladies, I have been reading these boards about 4 months. Just joined up last week and this is my first post. These boards have been very helpful to me I thought for sure I was dying or I was becoming a hypercondriact (SP)..I will be 49 in October, I have one son soon to be 17 and have been with my boyfriend 13 years. I am lucky to have been able to be a stay at home Mom since he was born.Spend alot of my time taking care of my Mum,my family, and spends too much time on the computer at night..lol I always had regular periods, every 28, never missed, with the usual pms with back and leg aches my only complaint. That was until about three years ago when periods came 26 days apart sometimes 24 and the cramps and pms worse..The last couple of years my symptons got worse and the last year has been miserable. Here is my list that I can think of for tonight..

Periods closer and more intense. Missed 3 in the last year. Haven't had on since may 15..Cramps at any time the feeling I am getting my period any time.
Tingling in hands when I am on puter for awhile
Tingling in feet like lack of circulation
    DRY skin
Gray hairs caught up with me
Brown spots on face and arms
    Crashing fatique
    Insomnia
Reflux feeling of something in my throat
Anxiety, nervousness, always worried about my health and my Moms
Worry so much about my son that I am driving him crazy and away..I call him constantly when he is not home wanting to know what he's doing..
    Excess gas
Weight gain i started smoking again even thou it makes me feel awful
Nausea sometimes in the morning, freak out I may be pregnant
Craving for chocolate chip cookies warm from the oven at 1 am
Frequent headaches...His name is Thomas lol
Lack of energy and not wanting to do anything outside of the house.
Sadness not so much depression and very emotional..i cry over a klenex commercial
NO SEXUAL DESIRE the last year or so, it's almost repulsive
The one that is currenty freaking me out is my hips thighs and legs ache so bad the last few months mostly all the time. Sometimes when I walk even short distance they hurt and I feel like I am ninty..
And let me not forget, forgetfull and spacey.
The only thing I have not had is night sweets and hot flashes, but i think I had them in my late 30's
oh also, my gums have gotten worse in the last six months i am now rinsing everyday with listerine and when I sweat I had a odor I never had before.
    For the last 3 months I have been taking,Multi,super b max,magnesium,potassium,calcium/D,vit E,vit C, and fish oil concentrate
Don't know if it realy helps or not does not cure, but my skin is not as dry.
Am I in peri or what!! lol goodnight girls.. jojo

Re: lets do a study, list symptoms

I'm glad I found this message board. I've been feeling weird and wondering if I'm starting in on this next phase of life.

So, I'm 44 and my experiences include:

    extreme fatigue..very hard to overcome
    insomina
    heart palpitations, occasionally
    shakiness, trembling at times
    flushing/night sweats/daytime hot flashes too
    IBS/heartburn
    anxiety/depression
heavy periods that are getting closer together

I've started taking some vitamins (B complex, E, and a multi) and that's seemed to help some. Still, this is amazing how bad this can make you feel. It's really a chore to continue to function normally every day when you feel awful and weird.

Thanks everyone.. it really helps to hear others experiences and suggestions.

    Hi,

Tattougal mentioned the gums. I can say that I feel mine have receeded (sp)? Plus certain times of the month they bleed when I brush my teeth. I have had no cavities or any problems with my mouth up until about 6 months ago.

Oh yea, and gray hairs?! I get those covered up now. They sprout up all in the front - on top. Plus I get hair where I've never gotten it before (the chin, the breasts, a stray long one or two on my forearms) - real weird.

Re: lets do a study, list symptoms

    My symptoms occur at two - four week intervals over the past two years. However, the feeling of doom and gloom and extreme anxiety is ever present;
    dizziness
    anxiety/depression
bouts of terrible indigestion and difficulty swallowing
muscle aches and pains - behind shoulder blades, in breast bone, in arms and in knees
    and legs.
extreme fatigue at times - feels like the flu
crying at everything and once I start, can't stop
    intense worry over everything
irritable bladder about once a month
    irritable bowel
    itchy, burning, crawling skin
    hot flashes
    night sweats
    sleepless nights
    heart flutters when just resting
    loss of sexual drive
    nausea
    indigestion with belching
Wow, sounds like I'm ready to check into a nursing home. Two years ago, I felt great. Could walk miles and move and lift anything. Now, I can barely get up from lying on the floor. I feel like I'm 90 years old.
