Does anyone know?

Hi everyone,

I am new to this board and have a question about perimenopause/menopause. I will be 49 this year and all of the females in my family (mom, grandmom, sisters) all started menopause around age 47. Since last September, I have only had 2 cycles, 1 in september and 1 in december. I went to my GP who did blood tests. My FSH was 41.68 and my LH was 31.52. My guess would be perimenopause. The problem is that I am not having the hot flashes that everyone talks about or associates with menopause/perimenopause. In the last year I have maybe had 2 or 3 very very mild feelings of warmth. I do have the irritability, moodienss, and weepiness at times.

I have an appointment with the GYN this Monday and am going to bring her the results of the blood tests. I am so nervous that I have some terrible disease and not perimenopause. My GP did not really explain what my FSH and LH mean. He just printed out a copy of the blood work and gave it to me.

So what do you all think. Possibly peri? meno? I am not even sure what the normal FSH and LH levels are. I know that these tests are not always reliable.

Thanks for any info.

Re: Does anyone know?

Hi Robin,
You are in peri now and probably on the road to meno. I believe if your FSH is over 45.0 (if I remember right), you're in meno. You don't have to be experiencing hot flashes to know it's hormone related. It is just one of many symptoms that many women get, but not all women get the same thing. Don't worry yourself into anxiety!

Re: Does anyone know?

Hi molly,

Thank you so much for your reply. I thought I might possible be in peri or meno. I just wasn't sure. I had gone to one gyno last year who told me that there is no way I could be in peri or meno cause I was too young, even after I told her about my family history. She would not even do blood tests. She wanted to do endometrial biopsy instead or wanted to give me birth control to regulate my cycle. I am seeing a new gyno on Monday and am going to show her the blood tests results.

Again, thank you for your response. It is much appreciated.

Re: Does anyone know?

I'm 50 with irregular periods, but don't have hot flashes. I use Emerta progesterone cream though, but I haven't been using it long. It's very good for bloating and breast tenderness. I think I've even lost some weight with it, believe it or not; don't know if it's water weight or what.
