    Menopause question

This might sound like a strange question but I was wondering if there are any differences in menopause between women who have had children and women who haven't, ie. has anyone heard of menopause starting earlier in women who have not had children as opposed to women who have?

    Re: Menopause question

    Hi E.K.

I do not know if there is a connection between early menopause and not having children, but I am 44, in menopause, and have not had children. However, my mother had early menopause, and my older sister (she is 48) is going through it now, and she does not have children. It is an interesting scenario and I have wondered about it myself.

I have read that the age at which you start menopause is related to 1) the age which your mother started and 2) the age at which you reached puberty. The only correlation I've read regarding children/no children, was that women who have not had children had an easier time in menopause. Haven't seen this in experience, but then again my sample space is much smaller than those who did the study in the report I read.

Thanks for that. I'm 45 yo and childless through choice and have noticed some changes with my periods, e.g. not always every month and lighter. I have no menopause symptoms though.

I've read these 2 also, but did hear that childless women, or women who have nver been pregnant before go thru earlier menopause. Smokers, also go thru it earlier.
I can't verify that women who have not had children have it easier though...
    I've had about 14 years of hormone-related h-e-!-!.
    But that's just me.

    Re: Menopause question

E.K. that's a good question...hmmmmmmmm...I can only speak from what I see in my family since I've not read any research. My middle sister and I (we both have children) have been going through perimenopause since our early 40's and having a difficult time with just about all the symptoms. Meanwhile my youngest sister, who did not have any children by choice, doesn't seem to have any symptoms.
