Re: Skin changes in menopause

Hi Lynn,
I've always bruised easily, but now I seem to bruise from the lightest bump, or even if I lean on my leg with my elbow, I'll get a small burise. I've had acne for a few years (never got much as a teen), and the most recent annoyance - my scalp is bothering me. It's hard to describe, it's kind of sensitive/tender/burning feeling. If it get's much worse I'm going to the Dermatologist. Right now it's very cold, dry weather so that could be making it worse.
And - my hands look awful - dry and alomost wrinkly looking. I'm 48 and thinking it's the beginning of starting to look 'older' - just wonderful!!!.

Hope it didn't whine to much, but I'm snowed in today and have too much time to think about all this.
I think I'll brave the elements and venture out.

Mary

Hi Mary,
I understand what your saying about thinking about it too much.Seems it causes more anxiety.I will be 48 in a couple of months.I noticed a big change in my skin including my hands. As far as the bruising sometimes I just have no idea where I get the bruises. Are you in menopause right now?

Re: Skin changes in menopause

Hi Lynn,
I'm still having periods, although they are starting to get irregular - mostly coming close together. I just had hormone levels checked last week, but haven't gotten the results yet. I guess I'm in peri-menopause, and I've had all sorts of sypmtoms over the past 18 months or so. The axiety is the worst - I'm mostly anxious about my health. I've been to more Dr's in the past two years, than I care to admit. It's getting better now - I haven't died of anythig yet - LOL - all my ailments are from hormones going crazy!!!

Hang in there - I understand it will get better.

Re: Skin changes in menopause

You should have your thyroid levels checked. I had several symptoms happening that I kept attributing to menopause. Come to find out (the hard way) they were symptoms of hypothyroidism. Bruising easily can be one of the many symptoms of hypothyroidism. It is one of the symptoms I was experiencing.

Re: Skin changes in menopause

Hi again,
I have been hypothyroid for about 10 years now. I sometimes blame my symtoms on that, even though I'm on synthroid - levels can change. I've had about 3 dosage adjustments over the years. I think being hypo and peri makes things more frustraing.
