Advice for daily spotting

I am 49 years old. I am approaching menopause - have had irregular periods for around 2 years. I had a hysteroscopy because of irregular bleeding last December. The doctor removed a few polyps and the biopsy was normal. Since then I have not had a real period, but I spot every single day. Has anyone experienced daily spotting before entering menopause? I know I should go back to the doctor, but I'd just like to know from women with experience if this is normal or abnormal and if there is any easy treatment. Thanks!

Re: Advice for daily spotting

I had a similar problem a few years ago. I was spotting the whole time in between irregular periods!
I had a uterine biopsy, which came back fine - then my gyn started me on low dose bcp (Alesse) - had to stop taking them last month due to blood pressure rising.
Now all the fun hormones are acting up again!!!
You might want to check with your doctor - but it sounds like what a lot of us are going through. Wish we could just flip a switch and be done with all of it.
Oh - I am 49 too!

Re: Advice for daily spotting

I had it prior to menopause. I have been on HRT for about a year. Just recently changed to a lower dose and it started again. Went to the dr. who told me it is from to low progesterone compared to the estrogen. I have a new prescription for a higher dose of progesterone that I will get filled tomorrow. Hopefully, it will help.
Good luck.

Re: Advice for daily spotting

Thanks for the replies. A question for both of you:

Did the bcp and HRT cause any undesirable side effects (other than high b/p)? Also, how was the cost of the pills - (we don't have insurance for prescriptions.) The daily spotting is a nuisance, but otherwise I feel pretty good.

Re: Advice for daily spotting

I felt great while taking the pill - still had alittle perimenopausal symptoms - like hot flashes every now and then, but very mild.
My insurance covered mine - think they were about $26.00 per month.
I am trying to find some natural ways to keep by BP down so I can start taking them again. It's weird, because most of time my BP is normal, then will spike every so often. I work out at at our local fitness center at least 5 days a week, for about 1 1/2 hours. I'm 5'7" and weight 148 lbs., working on losing - would like to lose about 10 lbs.
I agree with you - the spotting is a pain!
