testing for peri-menopusal

Hi, I am going in to be tested for thyroid conditions and I also want to have tests done to see if I might be peri-menopausal. I really don't know what to ask the doctor. And I feel if I just say, "i want to see if I am peri-menopausal?" He might just order some basic test. I want to know exactlly what tests I should be expecting and asking for.

The test is a saliva test at your pharmancy or some doctors have them. they are $3o for each hormone tested. My doctor ( a close friend of mine is having me do the following:estrogen and progesterone. If sexual libido is a problem you can also do testosterone. These test tell some such according to my doctor. alyce

When I went to the gyn, he did a FSH test (this is a follicle stimulating hormone test). It is a simple blood test.

Re: testing for peri-menopusal

Just like JPino, I had an FSH test to see where I was at once I started getting the signs. Sure enough, the FSH did give an idea of how far into menopause I was. Nine months later, I was almost at the very end of it - so a good caring gynecologist will work with you to let you know what is happening.

Re: testing for peri-menopusal

I was told when I was in peri-menopause that the saliva test is a waste IF you are still having periods at all because the hormones vary sooo much hour to hour. They told me the FSH will give you a better idea of where you are at...but MOST women take 7 to 13 years to get to through menopause.
Chelle2, do you mean that you were only IN menopause for 9 months?? wow
