Bioidentical Hormones
Hi all-

Is anyone here taking bioidentical hormones for peri or menopause and if so which brand names are you using? Or do you have a compounding pharmacy make a specific formula for you only, with a Dr's rx?

I am 51 now and had my ovaries out 2 yrs ago, for another health problem, and so to say the least, I am suffering alot with almost all the usual menopausal symptoms. I have been reading bioidenticals are completely different than synthetic and work better and are safer since they match what we make naturally. - Oprah had a show about it last wk.

So, I am seeing a Dr. in Feb to see about bioidenticals and wondered if others have tried them? My blood and saliva tests are showing, I am low in all hormones, which of course, I figured. - estrogen/progesterone/ testosterone.
ALL 3 are really important for a women's health, so I read.

Any input appreciated!:)

Re: Bioidentical Hormones
I'm using an estradiol gel right now. The one I use (divi) comes in three strengths. I was started on the middle dose daily for 2 months, went on the highest for a month. My own fault for the decrease, I feared cancer but I may have to go back up to it because I'm getting hot flashes again. I'll be starting the progesterone replacement for 10 days next month.

So far, I think it's wonderful. I had horrible experiences with BC. I feared starting this but I was sooo wrong!

Re: Bioidentical Hormones
I'm wondering about this as well. I'm 50 and am experiencing, from what I understand the usual problems associated with being this age. I watched Oprah today with Suzanne Sommers.
All I want to know is does it work and are there side effects? Do the benefits outweigh the risks? Is it worth it?

Where are all the women scientists and doctors wanting to help us through this stage in our life? Sorry, but I just want to start feeling like I used to.

Re: Bioidentical Hormones
I used the bioidentical hormones compounded at a local pharmacy. I was on them for about 2 years and had no problems or side effects. Worked great for the hot flashes and other meno symptoms. I would highly recommend them. I wish you all well. :)

Re: Bioidentical Hormones
I’ve never tried bioidenticals, so I can’t really comment on that issue, but I just wanted to say that I think Oprah is the greatest! She’s on my short list of people that I would really like to meet someday. I don’t watch much tv, even less in the daytime, but I always catch her shows when I can. I really believe that she’s sincere, big hearted, and is genuinely concerned about women’s issues and people in general.

Re: Bioidentical Hormones
I went to a menopause specialist and she said bioidentical hormones is a marketing name All hormones are synthetically made, but some mimic the hormones of the human others come from horses urine. I know which one I would try first
