I am 47 yrs old and am perimenopausal. I have had constant "nervousness' and feeling like someone is sitting on my chest most of the time and shortness of breath (sometimes it takes all I can do not to take myself to the ER thinking I can't breath). I believe it's all due to my hormones being out of whack since all of these symptoms started when my periods became heavier. It's this feeling "switched on" ALL the time that drives me crazy. My doctor prescribed me Yaz today but after reading about it on the internet, I'm scared to death to try it. Are there other alternatives or more natural ways of balancing out our hormones? Or do you think it would be ok to take the Yaz? One side affect I have read for the Yaz is anxiety....well that would defeat my purpose of taking it..

Re: Peri-menopausal

I have been on this ride for 12 years now. I am 56 and have not quite officially entered Menopause. I also started with symptoms such as your describing at 45. My gyn handed me 2 packs of yaz and sent me on my way.
No one can tell you if you should go that route or not. For me, I read all the same stuff that you have and decided natural alternatives were the way I wanted to go. It has not been a smooth or pretty ride, but I still would not have done it differently.
Good luck and happy peri. They tell me that their is a rosy life after the hump. I am hoping that I am almost there! ;-)
